What are business days?
Business days are the days most organisations actually operate on: Monday through Friday. A business day calculator works out how many of these working days fall inside a date range, and can also add or subtract business days from a date to land on the next weekday that is not a weekend or a holiday. The days between dates excluding weekends matter more than most people realise, because contracts, invoices, shipping windows, bank transfers and HR deadlines are all quoted in working days. A full business week is five days, and a working month is usually 20 to 23 business days even when the calendar month has 30 or 31. Public holidays fall on top of weekends, so you list the specific holiday dates you want excluded for an exact working days count. Because weeks and years repeat the same weekday cycle, a working day calculator does this instantly where doing it by hand is slow and error-prone.
How to use
- Enter a start date and an end date.
- Add any holidays as a comma-separated list of YYYY-MM-DD dates.
- Click 'Count business days' for the working days and calendar days.
- To find a future date, enter a start and how many business days to add, then click 'Calculate date'.
Example
Set the start date to 2026-09-01 and the end date to 2026-09-30. The calculator reports 22 business days and 30 calendar days. Adding 10 business days to 2026-09-01 gives 2026-09-15, and adding 22 lands on 2026-10-01.
Common use cases
- Counting working days until a deadline or due date.
- Working out a delivery date a set number of business days away.
- Checking business days between invoice date and payment term.
- Estimating days between dates excluding weekends for a notice period.
- Planning business days from date to an event or launch.
Pro tips
- Both dates count, so a working week runs Monday to Friday inclusive.
- Add holidays as YYYY-MM-DD for an exact working days count.
- Use add/subtract to jump to the next weekday past a weekend.
- Order the dates any way — the calculator swaps them.
FAQ
What are business days?
Business days are the working days people and companies operate, normally Monday to Friday, excluding weekends.
How does the calculator count business days?
It counts every weekday (Monday to Friday) between your start and end date, skipping Saturdays, Sundays and any holidays you list.
Does it count weekends?
No. Weekends are excluded by default, so the result is the number of working days only.
Does it count holidays?
It does not include holidays automatically, but you can add a comma-separated list of YYYY-MM-DD holiday dates to exclude.
Does it include the start and end dates?
Yes — both the start and end dates count. The result is the number of working days in the whole span.
How do I add business days to a date?
Pick a start date, enter the business days to add, choose Add, and you get the resulting calendar date.
What is the difference between business days and calendar days?
Calendar days count every day including weekends; business days count only Monday to Friday. A calendar month has 30 or 31 days but usually 21 to 22 working days.
What happens if my end date is before my start date?
The calculator swaps the two dates automatically, so you always get a positive count.
Is this business days calculator free and private?
Yes. It is free, runs entirely in your browser, and nothing is uploaded.
